Exciting news! Pleasant View has been awarded a $600,000 Statewide Local Share Account grant from the Commonwealth Financing Authority to transform an existing building into a new childcare facility.

Pleasant View is creating the childcare center to continue the integration of the campus with the larger community. Research shows that intergenerational programs offer significant advantages for both older adults and young children. The facility will feature three pre-k rooms and one older toddler room — serving 72 children and providing diverse care opportunities to families.

“This project addresses a critical need for childcare in the greater Manheim area. By bringing together the youngest and oldest members of our community, we’re creating a space where joy and learning flourish,” Pleasant View President Jonathan Hollinger said. “We cannot thank Representative Mindy Fee and Senator James Malone enough for their enthusiastic support of Pleasant View’s initiative.”

The Commonwealth loses approximately $6.65 billion annually due to a lack of available childcare services, according to the 2025 State of Early Care and Education report published by the Pennsylvania Partnerships for Education. A significant reason for this loss is that one parent must stay at home to provide care instead of going to work, which increases the economic hardship of the family.

“When families lack access to childcare services, parents cannot fully enter the workforce,” Representative Mindy Fee said.  “This center will empower our local community by providing families with the options they need. I applaud Pleasant View for taking the initiative to address this problem and I am happy to be able to lend my support.”

Each pre-k room will have the ability to support 20 children, while the toddler room will serve an additional 12 children. As a result, Pleasant View is filling an important gap in the region’s childcare network.

“Investing in pre-k childcare strengthens our communities and helps children develop fundamental learning skills while providing families with imperative services,” Senator James Malone said. “I am proud to support this initiative for families in the 36th district.”
